Director of Advancement Services

This position will play a leadership role in developing a technical vision to support Cranbrook’sfundraising, developing strategic technology plans for Advancement, ensuring that systems andprocesses run smoothly, and that fundraising staff have the tools they need to do their jobseffectively. This responsibility includes providing managerial and technical leadership for fundraisingtechnology projects; ensuring the integrity, security, interoperability and cost-effectiveness ofCranbrook’s Advancement infrastructure; and providing advice to senior leadership on fundraisingsystem issues, projects, budgets, options, and the impacts of decisions. The projects that theincumbent oversees have immediate and long-term implications for Cranbrook and must becoordinated with key stakeholders across the organization.


Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree and/or equivalent experience in thearea of technology or information management preferred. A minimum of 4 years’ managementexperience in an Advancement Services department. Ability to function at an executive level within acomplex organization. Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising and advancement services.Demonstrated experience with personnel, technologies, and processes involved in marketing andcommunications, prospect research, and donor relations preferred. Knowledge of the principles andpractices of gift processing and administration. Demonstrated understanding of the types ofinformation systems used to collect, disseminate, and report data in support of the fundraisingefforts of a complex organization. Experience evaluating complex issues, determining appropriatesolutions, costs, and required resources, reaching agreement on a course of action, and providingleadership in implementing the chosen approach. Experience developing and managing adepartmental budget preferred. Experience selecting technology products and services andoverseeing the implementation of the selected solutions. Ability to use discretion, exercise goodjudgment, tact, diplomacy and maintain strict confidentiality. A strong customer services ethic.Excellent interpersonal skills and political astuteness. Requires a valid Michigan driver’s license withsatisfactory driving record.
